چکیده

Background There is an overlapping phenotype in patients with newonset systolic heart failure due to myocarditis and dilative cardiomyopathy (DCM). Differentiation between both etiologies has important therapeutic and prognostic implications and is currently based on endomyocardial biopsy (EMB). In contrast, current cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques are of limited value in these patients with predominantly diffuse myocardial injury. This study evaluated the performance of quantitative T1and T2-mapping CMR to differentiate between active myocarditis and DCM in patients with new-onset systolic heart failure.

Performance of t1 and t2 mapping cardiovascular magnetic resonance to detect active myocarditis in patients with recent-onset heart failure.

BACKGROUND This study evaluated the performance of novel quantitative T1 and T2 mapping cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) techniques to identify active myocarditis in patients with recent-onset heart failure. METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty-one consecutive patients with recent-onset heart failure, reduced left ventricular function and clinically suspected myocarditis underwent endomyocardial...

T1 and T2 mapping cardiovascular magnetic resonance to monitor the course of myocarditis

Background Myocarditis is a heterogeneous disease with a large spectrum of possible clinical courses ranging from complete healing to end stage heart failure. However, there is a lack of reliable prognostic factors to identify patients with an adverse outcome. T1 and T2 mapping are promising novel diagnostic cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) tools for a quantitative assessment of the dyna...

A New Potential Contrast Agent for Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Iron Oxide-4A Nanocomposite

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents have an important role to differentiate healthy and diseased tissues. Access and design new contrast agents for the optimal use of MRI are necessary. This study aims to evaluate iron oxide–4A nanocomposite ability to act as a magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent.Materials and Methods: Iron oxide–4A nanocomposite (F4A) was syn...

Non-contrast T1-mapping detects acute myocardial edema with high diagnostic accuracy: a comparison to T2-weighted cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND T2w-CMR is used widely to assess myocardial edema. Quantitative T1-mapping is also sensitive to changes in free water content. We hypothesized that T1-mapping would have a higher diagnostic performance in detecting acute edema than dark-blood and bright-blood T2w-CMR. METHODS We investigated 21 controls (55 ± 13 years) and 21 patients (61 ± 10 years) with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy o...

Detection and Monitoring of Acute Myocarditis Applying Quantitative Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance.

BACKGROUND Cardiovascular magnetic resonance based on the Lake Louise Criteria is used to make the diagnosis of acute myocarditis. Novel quantitative parametric mapping techniques promise to overcome some of its limitations. We aimed to evaluate quantitative cardiovascular magnetic resonance to detect and monitor acute myocarditis. METHODS AND RESULTS Eighteen patients with clinical diagnosis...
